🩷 Local Picks From Our Team – Mon’s Favourites

Get to know Yamba like a local!

Our Guest Service Exec, Mon, spends her days helping guests settle in — and her weekends exploring every corner of the Clarence Coast. Here are her top picks to help you make the most of your stay at Calypso Yamba Holiday Park

🍽 Mon’s Favourite Places to Eat

Thai Payu
Warm atmosphere, incredibly friendly staff, and the kind of Thai food that keeps people coming back again and again. A local favourite for good reason.

Sassafras Pizza (Takeaway)
Perfect after a big day out. They’re known for delicious pizzas and the best gluten-free bases in town — plus they employ lots of local teens.

🍻 Best Spot for a Relaxed Drink

Yamba Shores Tavern
A laid-back riverside pub ideal for a quiet afternoon beverage. Less busy than the pub in town, with beautiful views over the water.

🌊 Mon’s Go-To Swim Spots

Convent Beach
Sheltered from southerly winds and a gorgeous spot to soak up the warm north sun — especially on cooler winter days.

Green Point Cove
Great for a paddle and taking in the scenery, but only recommended for experienced swimmers.

🚶‍♀️ Favourite Local Walks

Mara Creek Walk (Angourie)
Mon’s #1 pick. Start early to see wildlife, or head out on a drizzly morning when everything feels alive. Peaceful, scenic, and full of nature.

Washpool National Park (Day Trip)
A little further out past Grafton, but absolutely worth it. Stunning rainforest trails and a perfect escape for nature lovers.

☕ Best Coffee Spots

Pinewood Corner
Right next door to Calypso — consistently great coffee and lovely local owners.

Laneway Lunchbox
Hot coffee, delicious food, and a friendly vibe. Another one of Mon’s go-tos.

🐾 Pet-Friendly Beaches (for guests travelling with dogs)

  • Pippi Beach (Dolphin Park Carpark → Barri Point): Off-leash
  • Whiting Beach (Carpark sign → navigation marker): On-leash
  • Yamba Breakwall & Green Point Cove: On-leash
  • Green Point Carpark Park Area & Wattle Park: Off-leash

🎣 Fishing Tips From Mon

There are too many great spots to list — which is good news for you.
If you’re unsure where to go, visit the bait & tackle shop just 100m from Calypso. They’ll tell you exactly what’s biting, the best bait to use, and the right spot for the day.
(You can even drop a line right off our pontoon!)

🛍 Mon’s Favourite Local Shops

Embella Jewellery
Beautiful coastal jewellery and a hard-to-leave-without-buying-something kind of store.

Op Shops in Yamba & Maclean
If you love a good thrift find, Yamba has three great options — and nearby Maclean has five fantastic ones. Try an op-shop trail for something fun and different.

Recreational Fishing Licence – NSW

A licence is required to fish in NSW waters (freshwater or saltwater) if you are 18 years or older
